When I first got on Google+, I was so excited to share rings in my circles. I could write things, and be sure that only the people who I meant to read them would read them. How novel!
And then I realized that people could share publicly what I previously limited.
Damn.
Lesson learned: Even if it is locked down and private, there is no privacy for anything on a social network. Ever.
Well technically they can’t share it “publicly” but they CAN share to their “extended circles” which is still crappy. What about if you individually tag a person instead of a circle? Can that person then go and make that post public? Haven’t tried that yet.
Who knows. Either way, there is no private on the internet ever.
OK - So there is a way to lock a post so it won’t be shared, but it’s not obvious at all and really should be the default.
This is why I hate social networks. For every feature int he user’s favor, there’s another useful one hidden in the settings and menus no one ever uses.

I’d totally vote for you for president of the Internet or something.
Oh, and wait, what? You mean other people can share my private stuff?
*runs to delete all the porn and racist posts*
Well, they’ll probably share your vote, so whomever doesn’t like you will come after you to get you to vote for them.
